The Wall ist ein Konzeptalbum der britischen Rockband Pink Floyd. Das Album wurde am 30. November 1979 in Großbritannien veröffentlicht. The Wall stellte nach den Vorgängeralben Wish You Were Here und Animals eine neue Ausrichtung der Musik der Band dar. Die Verkaufszahl beträgt 30 Millionen Stück. The Wall ist das weltweit meistverkaufte Doppelalbum.

The Wall erzählt die Geschichte von Pink, einem jungen Mann, der aufgrund der Überbehütung durch seine Mutter, der Abwesenheit seines im Krieg gefallenen Vaters (When the tigers broke free) und der Grausamkeit der Lehrer in der Kindheit (The Happiest Days of our Lives) eine imaginäre „Mauer“ um sich herum errichtet, die ihn vor äußeren emotionalen Einflüssen schützen soll. Nachdem er die Mauer aufgebaut hat, verzweifelt der junge Mann an seiner Existenz, weil er durch sie von sozialen Kontakten weitgehend abgeschirmt ist. Er versucht, die Mauer zu durchbrechen, unter anderem, indem er eine Prostituierte engagiert, die ihn in die Liebe einführen soll.

Unfähig, die Mauer einzureißen, verabschiedet sich der Protagonist von der für ihn grausamen Welt. Anstatt sich jedoch umzubringen, versucht er, die letzten verbleibenden Gefühle zu unterdrücken, wird zum Mitläufer der Gesellschaft und zu einem faschistischen Agitator.

Am Ende ist er nicht in der Lage, alle Emotionen zu unterdrücken, und klagt sich selbst des Vergehens, Gefühle gezeigt zu haben, vor einem imaginären Gericht an. Das Gericht nimmt die Zeugenaussagen von Lehrer, Ex-Frau und Mutter entgegen und verurteilt den Angeklagten. Zur Strafe wird die Mauer eingerissen.
